  • Product Description

Erich von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods is a work of monumental importance--the first book to introduce the shocking theory that ancient Earth had been visited by aliens. This world-famous bestseller has withstood the test of time, inspiring countless books and films, including the author's own popular sequel, The Eyes of the Sphinx. But here is where it all began--von Daniken's startling theories of our earliest encounters with alien worlds, based upon his lifelong studies of ancient ruins, lost cities, potential spaceports, and a myriad of hard scientific facts that point to extraterrestrial intervention in human history. Most incredible of all, however, is von Daniken's theory that we ourselves are the descendants of these galactic pioneers--and the archeological discoveries that prove it... * An alien astronaut preserved in a pyramid
    * Thousand-year-old spaceflight navigation charts
    * Computer astronomy from Incan and Egyptian ruins
    * A map of the land beneath the ice cap of Antarctica
    * A giant spaceport discovered in the Andes
Includes remarkable photos that document mankind's first contact with aliens at the dawn of civilization.

Customer Reviews

  • Pseudoscience, not astronomy--please!

I'm so tired of this and other vonDaniken books and vonDaniken clones showing up on the list of new astronomy titles. Please, amazon.com, file this book properly: under occult and pseudoscience! This classic of crank scholarship (if one can ruin the word "scholarship") has long been discredited as the bad science it truly is. Why does this and other crackpot books by this deluded charlatan continue to be republished? C'mon, folks! Read about the REAL world of archeology, history, anthropology and astronomy this piece of drek purports to be. Please, don't insult your own intelligence or that of our ancestors by reading this silly stuff! You'll just be wasting precious time! ANY book by Brian Fagan, for example, or Jared Diamond can satisfy your curiosity about our fascinating past. And you'll be discovering REAL science, not the wild claims of a crackpot!
  • Makes You Wonder

This book makes total sense to me. With the age of our universe, why would't previous civilizations have been here? I just hope in my life time, I know for sure if we have been visited by beings from other planets. I have passed the book on and they are enjoying it too.
  • Good stuff!

I'm about 3 decades late in reading this book but here I am now.
The Amazon vendor was timely, the book in good condition.
  • Chariots of the Gods

    Interesting book.Keep an open mind!!
Received in excellent condition in record time!!
    Love doing business on Amazon!!
  • Thought provoking but very dated

The title really shows it's age in later chapters. I would recommend a newer title for sure. it makes all kinds of crazy predictions about advances we'll make in the 80's in space tech that just never panned out.
