This is the best-selling Original Authorized Edition regularly featured by Glenn Beck to Fox TV viewers as a Must Read!

The nation the Founders built is now in the throes of a political, economic, social, and spiritual crisis that has driven many to an almost frantic search for modern solutions. The truth is that the solutions have been available for a long time -- in the writings of our Founding Fathers -- carefully set forth in this timely book.

In The 5000 Year Leap: A Miracle That Changed the World, Discover the 28 Principles of Freedom our Founding Fathers said must be understood and perpetuated by every people who desire peace, prosperity, and freedom. Learn how adherence to these beliefs during the past 200 years has brought about more progress than was made in the previous 5000 years. These 28 Principles include The Genius of Natural Law, Virtuous and Moral Leaders, Equal Rights--Not Equal Things, and Avoiding the Burden of Debt. Published by the National Center for Constitutional Studies, a nonprofit educational foundation dedicated to restoring Constitutional principles in the tradition of America's Founding Fathers.

The National Center for Constitutional Studies...is doing a fine public service in educating Americans about the principles of the Constitution. -- Ronald Reagan, President of the United States

This is possibly the most comprehensive treatment of the genius of the American Founding Fathers which has ever been encompassed in a single volume. --Kenneth C. Chatwin, District Judge, Phoenix, Arizona

  • Should be required reading for all high school students

I am a student of U.S. history and consider myself well-versed in the documents and principles that led to the founding of our nation. This book brings together those principles and their source materials in a cogent and accessible way, making it easy to read. None of this history is being taught in our public schools, and if our children don't understand why America was founded and on what foundation its ideals are built, they will have no incentive to maintain or defend it. Before they are introduced to alternative views, they need to go back to the beginning and understand our nation's founding from the perspective of the founders themselves, thereby focusing them on the vision for America rather than its struggles to realize it. This would make a great textbook, and it's a must-read for modern-day patriots who want to be well-versed in the principles that make America exceptional and a draw to millions from all over the world even today.~ Ron Miller, author of Sellout: Musings from Uncle Tom's Porch
  • A treasure and an excellent starting point!

If your looking to start your journey through american history and grasp a basic understanding of what America means (or was intended to mean), then this book "The 5,000 Year Leap", without question is the best starting point! It takes you through the Founders ideas of good "nation building" and digs into the Founders philosophical ideas (such as Cicero), and of course the 28 principles of freedom as understood by the founders (a good amount of quotes from their letters and addresses help validate the writings of the 5TYL). Easy to understand (in fact that is the very reason why Skousen decided to write the book, because in his time, there was hardly any books that thoroughly examined the genius formula of America imbedded by the founders), however, the writing style back then takes a little time and effort to get used to. My review DOESN"T do the book justice, but I hope you pick the books up and read it as I believe ever american should do!

If your looking for a starting point on history, actual history, GET THIS BOOK NOW! The book is more valuable than the money your spending on it!
  • One of the BEST!

Well done, well documented, well disciplined.
I wish I had the understanding this book has given me 20 years ago.
I know of no better synthesis that explains the genius of America and what sets her apart and expalins the monment in history that produced men/women capable of giving to posterity a manner of keeping the people in charge of their own destiny.
You can understand how current affairs are the result of an ill-educated, underachieving, self-centered citizenry.
If "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance", then this book will be the vanguard that teaches us what vigilance guards against. Well done and well worth the read. My highest praise and thanks to the author.
  • This book should be taught at home and in our schools

Ive read all the bad reviews and compare those to the "plants" the demoncraps are putting in the tea party events to try and smear good caring Americans. If you care about this great country read this book, then teach your children to learn from this book and then your family and friends. There is nothing radical about this book at all. It just teaches you the hows, and whys the constitution came about and more importantly the dangers we face if we dont protect it. And some great examples are quoted from our founding fathers that certainly pertain to our current state of the USA and the evil anti-constitution politicians of BOTH parties. But this book now or soon before our government outlaws it or even worse tries to edit it and rewrite it to fit thei un-constitutional agendas. BTW President Reagan wanted this book to be taught in all American schools, and Ted Kennedy along with his liberal/communist demoncraps fought vigorously to stop this book from making it to the precious minds of our children!
  • Real History

I am a substitute teacher, covering the middle school classes, 6th through 8th grade. This book not only fills in the missing information not printed in today's class materials but gives careful insight to the reasons of freedom and why we are a nation. Highly recommend for homeschoolers and adult truth seekers.
